My windows are usually covered in doggie slobbers. The pups like to look out the windows and watch the people go by and be on bunny patrol. They take their job very seriously (as seen in the following photos). Needless to say, we need a good window cleaner in this house. Yes, I want clean windows, but I don’t want to be putting chemicals on the windows that aren’t safe for the dogs. I know a lot of people have similar concerns on cleaning windows and mirrors with small children at home. Kids do some goofy stuff, and most people just feel more at ease knowing there aren’t chemicals all over the windows.
That is where this awesome cleaner comes into play. Not only is it super easy to make, it is also inexpensive and totally natural. That makes me happy! All you need in some white vinegar and water. I add lemon essential oil which eliminates that vinegar smell and makes the house smell lemony fresh! Also, lemon is an awesome anti bacterial and anti fungal oil, so it adds some extra cleaning power to the mix. I like using microfiber towels to clean my mirrors and windows. But if you don’t have any, paper towels will work just fine. They just seem to leave a little lint behind.
Start with an empty spray bottle. The ones I have mark ratios of water to cleaning solution for easy measuring, but if you don’t have that, you can just measure it out yourself. No problem! I use 5:1 ratio water to vinegar. Which simply would mean if you add 5 cups of water, add 1 cup of vinegar! For each spray bottle (32 ounce) I add 15 to 20 drops of lemon essential oil.
