Cold weather calls for some extra love for your skin. Typically, in the winter my skin is really dry and it isn’t any fun. Lotions give some relief, but sometimes I need a little more. Body scrubs are the answer. They make my skin SO soft and feeling great. The best part? You can make them at home for a fraction of the price of those fancy store scrubs. Also, this scrub has only 3 ingredients. Sugar, almond oil, and essential oil. Perfect!!
Now, I knew that Matt and I love this scrub and use it all the time. But I wanted to test it out on a few more people to get their opinions before blasting this out to you all. So, I brought some in for my coworkers to try out and let me know what they thought. I’m happy to report, they loved it! One of my coworkers even said she will pay me to make her a big batch she loved it so much. She makes me homemade pierogis throughout the year, along with a ton of other baked goodies, so making her a big batch for free is my pleasure. You can’t go wrong with homemade pierogis.
As far as the ingredients go, I am sure you already have sugar lying around. I don’t use sugar very often, but I always have it in the pantry anyways. The almond oil I bought off of Amazon just because I didn’t feel like going out to a million stores in search of it. Here is a link to the one that I bought: (but there are a ton of other ones out there too. Any almond oil will work, it is super moisturizing and totally amazing)
The last piece of the puzzle is the essential oils. I use my all time favorite blend of peppermint, orange, and lemon. This is a super energizing blend that is awesome in the body scrub because it steam diffuses as you are showering with it. You will come out of the shower feeling totally energized, and smooth all over! If you are well versed with essential oils, feel free to make up any blend that is your favorite. It seemed like 12 to 15 drops was the perfect amount to get the most effect in the shower from them. Another super delicious option for oils is a pre made blend! I love love love Stinky Yogi oils. Not only are they from my hometown, but they have the best blends and everything is done for you. I went to a yoga workshop last year where these oils were infused into the yoga practice. Every oil had a different purpose along the course of the yoga class and it was such an amazing experience. I love diffusing these oils while I do yoga, but I also use them for so much more. My two favorites for the shower are surya (which is an energizing blend) and pranayama (which is an amazing minty chest opener, especially awesome if you are stuffed up). My other plus about these oils is that it is just one bottle and you are set. No need to count how many drops of this and that. - 1 cup white sugar
- ¼ cup almond oil
- 4-5 drops each: peppermint essential oil, orange essential oil, lemon essential oil
- In a bowl, mix together all ingredients.
- In the shower, apply body scrub all over dry skin areas. This is an abrasive sugar scrub, so do a test area first just to make sure your skin handles it okay. Rinse off any excess sugar and feel moisturized and awesome!
- Store in an airtight container.
