Oh. Heck. Yes. This peaches and cream smoothie is my jam. It tastes like dessert, but it is actually a healthy and filling breakfast smoothie. Sign me up. It is loaded with, well you guessed it …. peaches!! But, there is also greek yogurt, a little milk, oats, and chia seeds. That is why this breakfast will actually keep you full all morning long! Plus, smoothies are awesome because you can take them on the go so easily. And as an added bonus, you can reminisce about high school dances where they played “Peaches and Cream” and everyone thought they were getting all sexy on the dance floor. But, in reality, we all looked like awkward preteens without an ounce of rhythm. You know what I’m talking about.
Our usual breakfast is the same every day. We always make an english muffin egg sandwich. It is an exciting life, I am telling you. We get our eggs from one of Matt’s coworkers mother (who has chickens, soo jealous!!!), so when we don’t schedule our egg deliveries in advance, we are SOL. Not to worry, I fill the void with delicious smoothies like this one. Apparently the dogs thought this was the best thing ever too, because they both were super into it the entire time I was trying to take photos, lol.
I LOVE adding oats to my smoothies, and I really think you should try it. They blend right up to where you can barely notice they are in there, and they help keep you feeling full longer. It is my secret ingredient in every smoothie I make! Sometimes, I will add plain almonds to my smoothies too, for the same reason, but I don’t always have them in the pantry. I ALWAYS have a huge tub of old fashioned oats laying around.
The other bonus to this smoothie is chia seeds. If you haven’t gotten on the chia seed train, no worries! They are totally optional in the smoothie. But, they are worth putting in if you want to. Chia seeds are tiny little nutritional powerhouses. They are loaded with fiber, protein, omega 3’s, and antioxidants. They can be a little pricy in the store, but the bag lasts a long time. I usually only put in a tablespoon or two of chia seeds in any given recipe (which gives you plenty of their nutritional goodness) so that huge bag will last a while. Just keep them stored in the fridge so they stay fresh longer.
- 3 cups peaches (peeled, cored, and chopped or sliced)
- ½ cup vanilla greek yogurt (or plain)
- ½ cup old fashioned oats
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional, but reccommended)
- ¼ to ½ cup milk (depending how thick you want it)
- Put all ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth. Start with less milk and add until you reach desired thickness.
- If you have any extra, store in the freezer. Thaw in the fridge the day before you want to drink it.
