For todays post, I am recapping weeks 10 through 14 of my pregnancy! These past four weeks have been the most exciting so far. I had my second prenatal appointment where we got the see the baby on a sonogram and we got to hear the heart beat. I announced the pregnancy to the rest of my family and friends. I am also coasting into the second trimester, which is supposed to be the best of the three! Let’s get right into it!
Now that I read that first pregnancy post back to myself, holy crap was I a scatter brain. It barely makes any sense, lol. I thought about not posting it, or editing it to make more sense, but I decided to leave it. Because that is how I was feeling, totally scatter brained! A lot has happened in the last three weeks. I had my first doctors appointment, we told our family, and more crazy symptoms! It has been a wild ride so far and we can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of this amazing 9 months!
First off, I had my first prenatal doctors visit! Which is a very lengthy production. First I met with a nurse who went over my ENTIRE medical history and my families. The nurse called it her “CNN interview” and it felt like it lol, so many questions! But, the more they know about you going in, the better! Plus, this was my first time ever at this specific office. Why? Because I have a history of picking OB/GYNs that close up shop. Seriously, in the three years I’ve lived here, I have had two doctors offices close. So, now I am onto my third. Let’s hope for better luck this time around. So, after the CNN interview, I met with the doctor, who had a student with her (again, something that frequently seems to happen at me, like let’s see how many people can be in here staring at your va-jay-jay at once). I don’t know what I thought the doctor was going to do exactly, but at no point did she say like “yes, you are confirmed pregnant” and so I still was wondering … am I really pregnant? I only took one home test… But then, I had to pee in a cup and get blood work drawn (apparently my veins suck because I left with bandages on both arms). And, about a week later, my blood work results said “prenatal blood work is within normal range” which, I don’t know what that means exactly, but I am assuming it is a confirmation of sorts that yes, I am in fact pregnant. My next appointment is at 12 weeks, when I actually get to have a sonogram and hear the heart beat and I am freaking out in anticipation and just stress that its not for sure until I hear that heart beat. There is so much talk about miscarriage in the first trimester, it is just always lingering in the back of my mind.
After my doctors appointment and test results came back in that gave me a little more confidence, Matt and I went off to baby stores to find a cute way to tell our parents we are expecting. I ended up telling my sister over the phone because I just HAD to tell someone, I couldn’t keep it in any more. My parents and grandparents are all Baltimore born, meaning, by default, they love fresh steamed crabs from the bay. I mean, who doesn’t, they are freaking awesome. So, when I saw a little onesie with crabs and anchors on it, I had to get it!! Fresh steamed crabs are a staple any time we come home to visit. Then, for Matt’s parents we found a cute onesie with a doggie on the butt and feet and a matching doggie bib. Since that side of the family now has 5 dogs when we all get together, it seemed only fitting. And it was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. So, we mailed those off with pacifiers and sheets of paper that said “Guess what? Grandma & Grandpa duty starts soon! Baby coming August 2017”. Matt’s parents got theirs and facetimed us totally excited and surprised which was so fun! I got my Grandma in on my parents and told her to tell my parents to FaceTime me before opening the package. So, I got to see the totally excited look on their faces as they were opening it up. It was so fun and so exciting! Now they are all vowed to secrecy as well, until my sonogram and until I announce it myself, and it is totally killing them to keep it to themselves. But, so far, they have all behaved!
And, last but not least, yes I am still having all sorts of first trimester preggo fun. AKA- morning sickness, morning sickness, morning sickness. My doctor had me start taking vitamin B6 pills three times a day, which actually for a while, was really helping. But some days, you are just going to be sick and I’ve kinda at this point accepted it. Some days I throw up 3, 4, or even 5 times! Some days, zero. Most days, twice seems to be the magic number. I’ve tried ginger teas and ginger candies, I’ve tried snacking on crackers before getting out of bed, I’ve tried everything I could find on the internet. Some days, it just aint your day. Now, if that is all I was dealing with, I might be a little better off. I caught some sort of the flu bug, right around week 7. Fever, chills, headache, and a serious cough that actually forced me to sleep on a chair downstairs at night for about a week to keep my head and chest elevated enough so I wasn’t coughing all night. Then, I got pink eye. In both eyes. I mean, really?!?! My coworkers seriously thought I was falling apart and had never seen me so sick and out of it. It was awful. I am just NOW starting to feel better as far as the whole flu/cough symptoms go. And my pink eye is all cleared up, although I cracked my glasses in the process so I desperately need to go to the eye doctor and get a new pair now. What a crazy ride! As far as other pregnancy related symptoms I’m having so far, I am extremely tired and low energy (probably a combo of pregnancy and having every sickness under the sun). Luckily, I have been able to go to bed super early and sleep in most mornings later than usual. Some nights I’ve been sleeping for 12 hours and still getting tired in the middle of the day, who knew growing a baby would exhaust you so much! Also, my boobs have been SO sore. They are growing away and sore to the touch, but wearing sports bras seems to keep the aching to a minimum. I have been trying my hardest to maintain some sort of physical activity, but I seriously haven’t been able to do much of anything. I don’t know the last time I have moved my body this little, it feels so wrong. I am trying to do what I can and just take it day by day. I know staying active is really important while you are pregnant, but sometimes your body has other ideas for your first trimester.
Well, that about sums it up for these past couple of weeks! Questions, comments, advice … please leave it all below! I need all of it I can get!
Where have I been?!?! I know guys, I am so sorry! I totally disappeared for a while there. But, with good reason. I’ve been a little busy, you know, being PREGNANT!!!! Actually, that is no reason why I couldn’t sit at my computer and blog. But trust me, if you read on, you will see I was in no state of mind to do much of anything for the past month or so. But, today I officially hit the second trimester, and I am officially starting to feel a little bit better. The post you are about to read is from 7 weeks ago now (oh my gosh, that long already!!) Trust me, it is kind of a jumbled emotional mess that doesn’t make 100% sense, but that is just how my brain was working at the time. I’ve been blogging every couple of weeks now about how things are going, so I will be posting those in the near future as well! So here we go…
